"STARTING A BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH"
Our first steps began with a pen, pencils, scrap paper a couple of kids and just having an art time in every day. No assignments, no directives just doing what kids love to do with a box of crayons, a paint set some imagination and being busy AT PLAY!! From this we continued the use of Art and Writing in the core of our curriculum In-Home Instruction Plans to address academic practicums and expressions.
During these earlier years we did not have a business in mind for this. It wasn't until my son made his flag tee shirts and said he wanted to mass produce them and we had no money to do so. This he decided after learning from OBSERVATION. Following the steps of OBSERVATION while studying how businesses in our local community is sprung from our basic human needs for food and clothes. The two most important commodity NEEDS TO BE FILLED every day, and as we joked on the third, being toilet paper.
Spending time doing the work that was play is just half the story, the other half is valuing the PLAY and the FRUIT of child's play. After many years of keeping the Artwork and literary work in good condition, it has now become WORK that we have to do to put the artwork unto the items that we have placed all of the designs on. We use and wear all of what we create, as well those that we share them with at holiday gift giving exchanges.
Our success is that we have valued what we did as leisure fun. As the parent, keeping the little awes of my children's lives fulfills my heart's desire. How it is becoming our family business is what is going to be addressed on our ADN Artist & Authors Publishing face book page. So here it is, STARTING A BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH.
The beginning stages of starting a business are OBSERVATION. Looking around to see if there is a need. Then looking within yourself and your talents to see if you can FILL THE NEED. From your place of need and simplicity BEGIN with a piece of paper, a pen and make a list of things you can do, what do you need to do it with and can you get those things from the resources around you that are freely available. DON'T THINK MONEY. GETTING THE WORK DONE is what's important. SEEK FREE business support classes or seminars at your libraries. Attend free government SMALL BUSINESS SERVICES for your city.
If you don't have the money to start a business and you have fixed or limited income, then you will NEED to choose to do as a business of something that already brings joy to your life. It can be very difficult and depressing to have less than you've had before, so this is why
it is important to value what your income provides.
APPLY at least 10 cents of each dollar you have in income toward
your creative hobby or idea. Even if all that the 10 cents on every dollar does is pay the fare to the nearest library or for the pen and paper. Just keep in mind that it takes time and that's the only thing that you may have some of that spent wisely will be your greatest ASSET.
